If you’re a true reader, you can’t just read one book. Instead, the moment you finish a book you’re reaching for the other.
Sometimes, you might even read several books at the time and give people a headache wondering how in the world could you keep track of four books at the time. But, it’s feasible; all you have to do is close the door on one book and open it on the other.
Books come in all shapes nowadays. You have a paperback, a hardcover, an e-book, and my recent personal favorite – an audiobook.
I’ve decided to switch to e-books for its convenience.
For the past 2 years, I moved five times. Chang Ping, Beijing; Chaoyang, Beijing; Xia Li Pu, Wenzhou, Xin Cheng, Wenzhou; Rui’an Wenzhou; and in the next couple of years I will be moving one more time, at least.
At the beginning of this year, I’ve got a surprise e-mail; my favorite book subscription service, Scribd, informed that they’ve changed their policy.
If you were subscribed to Scribd, prior to 2017, you could’ve read 3 e-books, and listened to a single audiobook per month; which wasn’t bad for $8.99. But, then, they’ve decided to change their service and since the beginning of 2018, you can read an unlimited amount of e-books, but also listen to the unlimited amount of audiobooks.
That’s simply the perfect gift for readers!
I carried my Scribd on my phone, wherever I went. I listened to my books while commuting, on my way to Starbucks, while waiting in the grocery store queue, while doing the dishes, while taking a shower, while shaving, and one hour prior to bedtime.
Scribd’s audiobook collection is amazing. I’ve found almost every book I wanted to read; contemporary, classic, fiction and non-fiction.
During the last year, I’ve listened to 44 books. 2018 has been the most productive year of my life when it comes to reading and it was all possible because I managed to squeeze audiobooks in every activity which doesn’t require my conscious thinking.
Let’s do the math.
An average audiobook costs three times more than an e-book and the longer the book is the more expensive it is.
- under 1 hour: under $7
- 1 – 3 hours: $7 – $10
- 3 – 5 hours: $10 – $20
- 5 – 10 hours: $15 – $25
- 10 – 20 hours: $20 – $30
- over 20 hours: $25 – 35
Let’s say that the average price per audiobook is $25 because most of the audiobooks that I’ve listened were 10 hours or more.
I’ve listened to 44 audiobooks. That’s $1100 worth of audiobooks! Subscription is $8.99, which is $107.88.
That means that I’ve spent just a bit over $100 for something worth more than $1000 dollars.
All, I have to say is – THANK YOU SCRIBD – YOU’RE AMAZING!
