What or who can stop me from writing?

Writing is hard. Writing occupies my mind day and night. It sometimes happens that if I fail at writing I feel miserable for the rest of the day. I could easily say the writing is the main reason for my existence.

Therefore, what or who can stop me from writing?

First of all, writing is a task that requires my full attention. I cannot write if I am in fight or flight mode, or if something or someone is distracting me.

If I was born 50 years ago, I think that my life, as far as it comes to writing, will be much easier. The modern world brings us some powerful tools for communication, but those tools, at the same time, are big distractions.

I‘ve been on and off the social media many times and the best periods of my life were when I didn‘t have any accounts. Right now, I have the facebook page which is being run by my wife, a twitter account and I have recently made an Instagram account.

I must admit that when it comes to social media, I don‘t have any control. I must check them every single minute to see whether I have new notifications, has someone retweeted me, has someone followed me…

AND I DON‘T WANT THAT IN MY LIFE.

After a long time, I failed to write this morning, because I was sharing my blog post on various social media and checking if someone has liked it.

It‘s not that I haven‘t tried writing, but there was a constant presence of that – What if someone did something on my social media profile and my creativity burned into ashes.

Regardless of what everybody is suggesting:

  • You need to do the networking
  • You need to be present on social media
  • You need to build an army of followers

I won’t do it.

I am here to share my daily problems in a life of a writer and if you, as a reader, can learn something from that, I will be happy.

My main goal in life is to be a novelist. I‘ve tried writing scripts, short stories, copywriting, and it didn‘t work for me; it didn‘t give me any joy.

Blog writing is the entirely different story. I like blogging. I feel that after each blog I can understand both, myself and the writing craft, better and I will keep doing it until I can feel the benefits of it.

Therefore, I decided to use the social media just to share my blog and nothing else.

There is nothing that can stop me from writing and there are only a handful of people who I would let interrupt my writing but only in emergency situations; that‘s my family and friends.
